MEIMELALI.COM: Indonesian President To Reopen Bali When COVID-19 Transmission Is Reduced.
Indonesian President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that Indonesian borders will reopen for tourism when Covid-19 transmission in Bali is reduced. President Jokowi made a trip to Ubud Palace on Tuesday (16/3) to review the vaccine distribution and plan for the reopening.
He said that the reopening of international travel will be possible if Bali is able to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 on the island.
“I hope every person in Bali is complying with the prevention protocols to make it happen,” Jokowi said on Tuesday (16/3).
Jokowi appreciated the Governor of Bali and all regional governments for their continued efforts in enforcing rules and protocols during the pandemic while also distributing vaccines.
“We have to be grateful for the vaccination program as we aim to achieve herd immunity,” Jokowi added. He explained that through herd immunity, Covid-19 is expected to be reduced and the risk will eventually disappear in the future.
Meanwhile, Jokowi didn’t mention the exact dates regarding the reopening of the Bali’s new proposed green zones.
“We will keep observing the situation, but if we think that Bali could reduce transmission, we will reopen one Bali area at a time before going back to normal. But for now, we’re still in the alert stage” Jokowi concluded.
