MEIMELALI.COM: Denpasar Mayor Wants To Vaccinate Expats For Free In Sanur For Green Zone Preparation.
To make Sanur a Green Zone, all residents will be vaccinated, said Denpasar Mayor IGN Jaya Negara. This includes those who have Denpasar ID cards or work/live in Sanur. His party is considering extending the vaccine program to expats as well.
The Mayor said he plans to accelerate the green zone program that was initiated by the central government to create a healthy and safe tourist environment before reopening the border.
He noted that he plans to distribute the vaccine to everyone who is living or temporarily staying in Sanur, both locals and expats. He initiated this discussion after observing that many expats decided to stay in Sanur during the pandemic.
“I realized that there are many foreign nationals who decided to stay in Sanur since the pandemic struck,” said Jaya Negara during an interview at his office in Denpasar on Wednesday (17/3).
He also claimed that this program will create a better image for Bali as a safe tourist destination, raising confidence with international tourists. Jaya Negara is currently communicating this plan with the central government to discuss whether it’s feasible.
“I’m still discussing this program with central government whether it’s possible to distribute the Covid-19 vaccine to foreign nationals for free or not, as they granted the vaccine for Indonesian citizens at the government’s expense” Jaya Negara added.
Additionally, he said that 100,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from AstraZeneca will be arriving this week in Bali. “We have prepared 22 locations of vaccine distribution place in Denpasar area such as Wangaya Hospital, Sanglah Hospital and Health Agency Office. With a total of 176 medical staff, we targeted to distribute the vaccine to at least 30,000 people within 3 weeks” Jaya Negara concluded.
