MEIMELALI.COM: Foreigner Breaking Into ATMs in Bali Recorded On CCTV.
Two ATM machines located on Jalan Uluwatu II 112X Jimbaran, South Kuta were broken into by an unidentified foreign national on Monday (15/3). The suspect took an estimated USD 5880 (IDR 8.5 mil). The case is under investigation as officers search for the man seen in the CCTV footage from the scene.
The incident occurred when the bank security guard named Haryanto (37) arrived to the bank on Monday morning. He had been working to secure the bank during the Day of Silence celebration from Saturday, to Monday.
He noticed that two of the ATM machines had been broken into and immediately alerted the police.
The Head of South Kuta Police Department, Kompol Yusak Agustinus Sooai said that upon receiving a report about the incident on Monday morning, he sent officers to the scene.
“After checking the CCTV footage, the perpetrator who was suspected as a foreign national attempted to rob the ATM machines on Monday at 2:25 am,” said Kompol Agustinus on Tuesday (16/3).
The suspect used a crowbar to break into the machine.
The suspect was wearing a long sleeve shirt and jeans and is approximately 170cm tall with a bearded face. The bank has lost about Rp. 85 million from the incident.
“The case is still under our investigation, so we will inform the media when we have more information” Kompol Agustinus concluded. He also warned people to be more vigilant as the crime rate has increased since the pandemic struck in Bali.
