MEIMELALI.COM: Malnutrition Cases In Klungkung Bali Surges Since Covid-19 Pandemic Struck.
Dozens of children in Klungkung are experiencing malnutrition and their condition is still far from normal in comparison to the average child in Bali.
During a social visit from Empowerment of Family Welfare (PKK) that took place at the Dalem Temple in Nusa Penida, they found dozens of children were undersized and malnourished. The Head of Klungkung PKK, Ayu Suwirta explained that as of February 2021 11 toddlers in Klungkung are malnourished, while another 21 are not being well-fed and 34 children are small for their age.
“Those kids were from the poor communities who live in Klungkung, including Nusa Penida. But thankfully the central and regional government have provided a food aid program called Additional Food Aid (PMT) for those children.” said Ayu Suwirta during the event which was also attended by the wife of Bali Governor, Putri Suastini Koster. Suwirta appreciated the food air program that was initiated by Suastini Koster to support the less fortunate residents in Klungkung area.
During the visit, Suastini Koster also handed out rice to people in need such as senior citizens, pregnant women and children. “I hope this program will help the people in the Klungkung District especially during these tough times. I also want to remind the pregnant women here to try to avoid getting stressed during their pregnancy by reducing their cell phone usage, eating healthy food as well as complying with the prevention protocols.” Suwirta concluded.
