MEIMELALI.COM: Vaccine Distribution Paused During Bali Galungan Celebration.
Denpasar officials have decided to pause the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine campaign for three days during Galungan Celebration from April 13-15.
The Spokesman of Denpasar Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Dewa Gede Rai said that this decision was made to give all Hindu medical staff time off to celebrate the event that is held twice a year.
“Denpasar city government has agreed to stop the vaccination program in 40 different vaccination sites across Denpasar” Gede Rai said on Monday (12/4).
Gede Rai explained that despite their effort to achieve herd immunity, people have to respect this holy day celebration. He added that medical services in all the hospitals and clinics will operate as normal.
“We only stopped the vaccine distribution, but we won’t stop the medical facilities from operating. All of them will remain open, especially for handling any emergency situations” Gede Rai added.
The vaccination program will continue to operate two days after the Galungan Celebration on Friday (16/4). Meanwhile, Gede Rai also explained that the Covid-19 Handling Task Force is now focusing on distributing the vaccine to public service officials such as teachers.
“We’re now focusing on vaccinating pre-school and kindergarten teachers in Denpasar. Other than that, we also aim to vaccinate the senior citizen as the vaccine distribution to the elderly people is still considered low as only 49% of them received the vaccine” Gede Rai concluded.
