MEIMELALI.COM: Bali Police Confirmed That The Crime Rate Have Significantly Increased Since The Pandemic Struck.
The Denpasar Police Department has confirmed that the crime rate in Denpasar city has significantly increased since the Covid-19 pandemic started last year.
The Head of the Denpasar Police Department, Kombes Pol Jansen Avitus Panjaitan confirmed that Denpasar police officers have arrested 27 suspects from 27 different cases within a month. “27 suspects were arrested by our officers from the 10th of May to the 12th of June, and that was twice as many cases in comparison with previous months.” Kombes Pol Jansen said during a press conference on Monday (14/6).
During a month-long police operation, the officers have seized a large amount of evidence from their suspects such as a car, laptop, notebook, knife, 17 motorbikes, cellphones, jewelry and cash. “We had 14 cases last month, but this month the crime rate got even worse. From a total of 27 cases, some of them would be punished with heavy prison sentences as they used weapons to assault their victims.” Kombes Pol Jansen added.
Jansen admitted that the situation became much worse since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, causing them to lose their jobs. Despite the current situation, Jansen assured the people that the police department will optimize their operation to reduce the crime rates in Denpasar city. “I want to remind the people to be more alert and careful, especially during these tough times in Bali when people tend to do bad things in order to survive.” Kombes Pol Jansen concluded. The sentences to the 27 suspects will vary, as it depends on their criminal activity, it will start from 5 years up to around 10 years of imprisonment as their punishment.
